PABITRA stands for Pacific-Asia Biodiversity Transect. PABITRA is a flexible design of a transect system that connects a number of island areas in the tropical Pacific (i.e. Oceania) into a network of sites as living landscapes. The sites include upland/inland forests, agro-ecosystems, and coastal habitats with coral reefs, which on islands are close together and interconnected by a number of physical and social parameters. PABITRA is also a network of people concerned with the conservation of island ecosystems and their sustainable production and services. PABITRA is organized and coordinated by a group of Pacific-based scientists with a strong interest in conservation. It is a program of the Pacific Science Association under our Biodiversity Working Group.
